Surgery

We arrived bright and early with an incredible peace about the whole procedure.  Emberly slept most of the time leading up to it - which made it much easier on us.  The hardest part was not being able to hold my baby while we waited.  I wasn't allowed to feed her...so Mark had to be the one to hold her so she wouldn't smell me and want to eat.  She also had some aromatherapy to suppress her appetite - which also helped us out as we were starving as well!

Mark changed her into the cute little hospital gown.  We thought it was funny that they had us put it on her since they were just going to take it off anyway.

The worst part was handing her off to the nurse to carry her to the OR.  I know she didn't cry long, but it's so hard to hear when you know you can't do anything to help.  The time  went remarkably fast.  It was only about 10-15 minutes for the surgery.  The doctor said it went very well and there may need to be more Laser treatments later on.  About 10 minutes after that the nurse came to get us and take us back to the recovery room to see her.  Another heartbreaking moment which no parent should ever have to go through - hearing your child crying, but it was different due to the anesthesia and seeing your child hooked up to machines with wires everywhere.  I tried to feed her, but it wasn't enough.  We tried changing the diaper, burping, everything, but this time we knew for sure it was just because of the pain she was in.  We were  allowed to leave shortly after.  It was hard to put her in the carseat knowing it would hurt her arm.  We stopped at McDonald's for some breakfast as it was not quite 10:30 yet.
Her arm looks so much better now after surgery - we are so thankful that it will only get better from here.

Plastic Surgeon?

Clearly Emberly is not concerned at all with what is about to take place.

We went to the plastic surgeon.  Kind of strange when your baby is only 2 months old.  The hemangioma looked way worse today than it did last night at the pediatrician's office.  It was clearly infected.  They even had the infectious disease guy come and look at it.  yikes!  They suggested Laser Surgery would be the best option.  We scheduled an appointment for tomorrow at 8 am.  They also decided general anesthesia would be the best option, as the plastic surgeon wanted to scrub it clean and make sure the infection was gone.

Hemangioma

Hemangioma-one word I wish I never knew the definition to or quite so much about.

When Emberly has sleeves on no one questions it or says anything or even knows it's there.

It's not as though we don't want it there, we just don't want it to cause her so much pain.
I took her in on a Monday night to the doctor's office.  Mark was at class and I thought the throwing up would be brushed under the rug and I would be sent home with nothing more than - your kid spits up a bunch.  Little did I know what I was in store for.

I explained that she gets very worked up when we change the bandage on her hemangioma.  After a confused look from the doctor, I explained that I was told I could put vaseline on it to keep it moist - being a new parent and having never heard of this before I did as I was told.  I took the bandage off and have never seen such a horrified look on a doctor's face.  He asked me to wait a minute while he got someone more experienced to come peek at it.  (He got the doctor who was rounding at the hospital when she was born)  After staring at it for what seemed like a long time, they asked who I saw previously and had asked about the vaseline.  So now I have three doctors in the room with me - a first time mom without her husband present- discussing how they have never seen anything like this before.  Then I hear one say they are booking us an appointment with the plastic surgeon for tomorrow.  I pretty much didn't really hear anything said to me after that.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Mom thought she would take some Valentine's Day Pictures.
I thought I'd rather suck on my hand than smile for the picture.

Ok, Mom, I'll move the hand, but you're not getting a smile.

If I give you a little smirk will you stop taking pictures of me?

Exhausted

Well it was another grueling day playing with Summer.  Thank goodness I'm home and can just relax now.  Summer just goes, goes, goes.  It's rather tiring to watch her play while I just lay around on the floor.  I'm glad I can be home and lounge in my bouncy seat and rest after such a hard day's work.  Now could someone get me some warm milk and my favorite blankie?
